Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing shortly after his recent defeat at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk but has been spotted outside a leisure centre in Lancashire
Boxer Tyson Fury looks keen to stay fighting fit after his retirement from the ring.
But instead of expensive training camps and private sessions, the Gypsy King – who has a £120million fortune – headed to his local council-run gym. Tyson, 36, and wife Paris, 35, walked to Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, which is owned by Lancaster council and offers sessions for just £11. As well as a gym, it has a swimming pool, climbing wall and a beauty spa.
The British former heavyweight champion – who built a gym at hometown club Morecambe FC’s ground – quit boxing last week, following a second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last month. It was the first time the couple had been pictured together since Tyson revealed that his boxing career was “over”.
He said: “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this: ‘Dick Turpin wore a mask’. God bless everybody, see you on the other side.”
The self-styled ‘Gypsy King’ last said that he would not fight again in 2022, after he stopped Dillian Whyte at Wembley. He fought Derek Chisora five months later. It was widely anticipated that Tyson would face fellow Brit Anthony Joshua before his latest announcement on social media.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has given Fury a tight deadline to reverse his retirement decision if a fight with Joshua is to be revived. “None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we are to see the fight in the summer, he would probably have to come out of retirement in the next three or four weeks,” Hearn said in mid-January.
“After that, the summer gets difficult for a fight of this size. The future? Hopefully […] I think he will be back, but it’s in his hands.”

If the Usyk defeat ends up being the last of Fury’s career, it won’t have been without controversy. The Ukrainian won by unanimous decision, but Fury disagreed with the outcome
”I thought I won the fight again, I was Larry Holmesed again,” he told ESPN. “I was on the front foot the entire time. When you don’t get the knockout, this is what can happen.”
Following Fury’s recent retirement announcement, promoter Frank Warren expects him to stick with the decision. “I support him 100 per cent if that’s what he wants to do,” Warren said
“It’s a decision he had to make and it’s not for anyone else to decide. He’s got a wife and seven kids, he’s made fortunes and doesn’t need to box for money.
“He’s made his mind up and all Tyson needs to do is please himself, not everyone else, especially the people who have been fierce critics of his. Why would he want to keep giving blood for them? If he changes his mind, he changes his mind but I don’t think he will.”
