One of the best beaches in Europe, is in the UK and features golden sands, safe and clean waters and quaint cafes and shops to explore making it the perfect day out
A UK beach with golden sands has been named among the best in Europe.
Weymouth Beach in Dorset has secured the spot for the 20th best beach in Europe, in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Beaches for 2025.
Claiming a winning spot for the fourth year in a row, Weymouth Beach is located on the stunning Jurassic Coast in Dorset. The beach features shallow, safe waters, making it the ideal destination for families.
There is also plenty to do in the surrounding area, with Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides and pedalo hire all available in the summer.
One reviewer commented that the beach is “picturesque even on an overcast day”. Another reviewer added: “I love this beach in any weather. Can get busy but never feels crowded. Lovely and clean. Doggy section is clean too thanks to responsible owners. Nice long walks and paddles, just gorgeous. Ice creams and public toilets – perfect!”
“From our hotel, the Alexandra, we had a great view of the beach and were pleasantly surprised to see that the tractors were out early scouring the beach. We’ve never seen so many staff litter picking during the day, and their task was aided by an incentive scheme to use the bins,” added a third reviewer. “A specific area of the beach is marked out for dog walkers. Full marks to the authorities for keeping the beach so clean and attractive. We didn’t go into the water but there were lots of people swimming and kayaking, and the water looked very clean. Weymouth has all the elements for a traditional seaside holiday – from candy floss to ice cream, funfair to slots arcade, an interesting harbour and boat trips, a beach train and restaurants of every kind. We went down to Weymouth by rail as there are good frequent services to London Waterloo, with connections to other destinations via Southampton, so you can start relaxing from the beginning of your holiday, without the hassle of driving.”
The beach has a long history of being popular. In the late 1700s, King George III would often make visits and enjoy the health benefits of bathing in coastal waters. The bay itself is sheltered, and has a gradually sloping seabed.
In addition, Weymouth beach often hosts festivals and sporting championships. A short walk from the beach itself, are a number of quaint restaurants, cafes and craft shops. There town’s high street and shopping centre is also not too far away. The beach is also well equipped with toilets and baby changing facilities.
“Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards uniquely reflect the voices of millions of global travellers and help guide people to plan their best trip yet. In my family, beaches aren’t just for sunbathing – we like to get out and explore! The diversity of this year’s winners really showcases everything that a beach trip can have to offer,” said Kristen Dalton, president, Tripadvisor.
