Rivelin Valley Water Play stands as a treasure for family days out throughout the summer, delivering wonderful experiences at absolutely no charge.
This location has served as a recreational haven since 1909, though the present facility welcomed its first visitors in 2013, becoming a favourite destination for Sheffield and South Yorkshire families when warm weather arrives.
Running from the spring half term through to the opening weekend of September, the attraction operates at weekends until school holidays, after which it opens its doors every day.
The facility boasts comprehensive disabled facilities, featuring ramp access, specialist “aqua” wheelchairs, a changing places lavatory, and three large splash zones with non-slip flooring.
However, the main draw for countless visitors remains the fact that entry costs nothing whatsoever.
Families can relish the water fountains, sprinklers, tipping buckets, and water play areas completely free of charge, reports Yorkshire Live.
TripAdvisor feedback also celebrates the neighbouring Rivelin Valley Nature Trail, which enjoys a four-and-a-half star rating.
One reviewer called Zottle described their visit: “Parked at Walkley Bank Tilt car park which was small but free. We were a group of three adults and three teens.
“Everyone really enjoyed it here. The gorge has stepping stones, bridges to cross, various routes to choose from. It was a beautiful adventure.We spent about three hours here.
“Could easily have spent longer here but it gives us an excuse to return instead as there is plenty more to explore next time!”
Alice revealed: “It is always a challenge to find somewhere that teens say was ‘alright’ – but this is one of them!
“They enjoyed deciding which way to go – over the bridge or the stepping stones? – and spent a couple of hours wandering cheerfully. The cafe was OK – the toasties were yummy as were the smoothies.
“A 20-minute wait felt quite long. Lots of free parking on Walkley Bank Road.”
