UK households urged not to drink coffee today for important reason

As the UK braces for a blistering heatwave, Brits are being warned to prepare for potentially record-breaking temperatures. The mercury in southern England is set to soar to a sizzling 34C on Monday, June 30, which could make it the hottest day of the year so far.

Amber heat alerts have been issued until Tuesday evening across southern, western and eastern England, with warnings of an increased risk of death, particularly among those aged over 65. As temperatures rise, getting a good night’s sleep can become increasingly difficult, with overnight temperatures in southern England expected to remain at a stifling 20C.

For those struggling to sleep in the sweltering conditions, reaching for a caffeine boost may seem like a tempting solution. However, this could actually make things worse.

On what could be the hottest day of the year, Brits are being advised to avoid coffee as the caffeine can make you feel hot and jittery, impacting your productivity.

Consuming caffeine during a heatwave can also worsen dehydration due to its diuretic effect. It can increase heart rate and blood pressure, which could be harmful in hot conditions, reports the Express.

Furthermore, caffeine can disrupt temperature regulation, potentially increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

Instead of reaching for a cup of coffee, Brits are being encouraged to opt for a refreshing smoothie or a glass of water.

Coconut water is the ultimate thirst-quencher during a heatwave, thanks to its high potassium and electrolyte content.

This refreshing beverage not only rehydrates your body but also provides a host of essential vitamins and minerals that give your immune system a much-needed boost.
