Doncaster Sheffield Airport is set to reopen next year and is now seeking employees for when it does reopen.

Work to prepare the airport is now underway and bosses are currently seeking employees for a number of roles, following its closure in 2022. Advertising for a site management officer, a City of Doncaster Council job listing reads: “We’re expanding our facilities team at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“As we continue to grow, we’re looking for passionate and skilled professionals to join us in maintaining and enhancing our airport facilities. If you’re experienced in facilities management, maintenance, or airport operations, this could be your next big opportunity.”

Some of the roles available include facilities management, maintenance and support services. Salaries currently range from £32,662 to £36,239 and the closing date is April 20. A spokesperson said: “Join a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

“We are seeking an experienced site management officer to join our facilities team at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. You will be part of a small team with responsibility for the entire airport site while we work towards the reopening of DSA. In return for your hard work and dedication, we can offer you the chance to be part of a great team dedicated to ensuring that all people in Doncaster thrive.”

At the beginning of February, Mayor Ros Jones confirmed that an international airport operator ready to run the airport.

She commented: “FlyDoncaster is a wholly owned company of this council, which has been established to manage the airport and partner with our international airport operator. Its key initial role is to mobilise the re-opening of the airport for passenger flights in Spring 2026.

“This is set to be the largest single investment in Doncaster for more than a generation, hence the considerable level of due diligence and our rigorous and logical approach to accomplish this monumental challenge of saving and re-opening our airport.”

The airport also received £20 million in February, to move forward with its planned mobilisation programme. The funding consists of £10 million from the City of Doncaster Council and the same figure from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).

Ms Jones said at the time: “Re-opening our airport is my number one priority, I am vigorously pursuing the reopening of our airport and despite the challenging timeline, our plan is to see our airport open in Spring 2026.

“The financial package will enable critical mobilisation works to continue and drive forward momentum in our drive to reopen the airport given its strategic importance to Doncaster, South Yorkshire and the North. I would like to thank South Yorkshire leaders for their continued support of our airport with their further funding approval.

The airport reopening is expected to create 5,000 direct jobs.
