UK weather: All areas of UK set to bask in sunshine as April mini-heatwave hits next week

By staff3 April 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The UK is set for more balmy weather in the coming weeks thanks to a high pressure system over the country and temperatures could rise into the 20Cs with sunshine and blue skies

Brits are set to bask in sunshine and balmy temperatures reaching 21C in the coming weeks, according to new forecasts. The mercury has risen this week and there is more warm weather on the way – although Brits will still experience cold snaps and wintry conditions.

The Met Office is predicting “dry and bright” weather ahead while there could also be “very warm days” thanks to a high pressure system over the country. And weather maps show that the UK could roast in temperatures reaching through the high-teens and into the low 20Cs, between April 10 to April 12.

Cities set to see temperatures near 20C in that period include Southampton, Newcastle, Brighton, London, Manchester and Birmingham. And in Scotland there will be similar warm temperatures as far north as Inverness as well Edinburgh and Glasgow, while people across Wales and Northern Ireland will also be able to enjoy the sunshine.

New maps from WXCharts show the country turning yellow by April 10 and it lasts over the following couple of days although temperatures will dip overnight into single figures. The only areas that are unlikely to see temperatures rise into the mid or high teens during this period are coastal areas of Wales and Scotland, especially in the north and west.

The Met Office outlook for April 7-16 states: “High pressure should prevail for most of the outlook period, maintaining largely settled conditions for much of the time. This should result in lengthy spells of dry and bright weather.

“It will be breezy at times, especially in the southwest at first. Daytime temperatures will depend on the wind direction and cloud amounts, but most places will be warm for most of the period, and very warm days most likely will be further inland.

“Overnight frosts are possible on clear nights where winds fall light. There is also the chance of some areas of low cloud or fog, notably around the east coast. Towards the middle of April, the weather may turn more unsettled as rain or showers try to push in from the west.”

Meanwhile, although Brits in many parts of the country will have felt March was cold, the Met Office has confirmed it was the sunniest since records began. It states: “As many look forward to a sunny and warm week ahead, the first week of April looks set to follow in the theme of meteorological spring so far: dry, warm and sunny.

“Provisional Met Office statistics show that England enjoyed its sunniest March since records began in 1910, with many individual counties also topping their sunshine duration records.

“It was also the UK’s third sunniest March on record, and Wales’ second. It was also a very dry month, with only Scotland recording more than half of its meteorological average rainfall.”

Met Office weather outlook

Thursday:

Dry and settled for many with low cloud and frost clearing to leave lots of warm sunshine. Rather windy in the south with increasing cloud, and showers affecting southwestern areas.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Showers in the west dying out on Friday, then generally fine and settled again. Warm sunshine. Some low cloud possible north and east. Still breezy south and west. Cooling down.
