UK weather maps show -2C freeze to hit Brits – full list of 10 coldest counties

By staff19 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Freezing temperatures are on the way to the UK with some areas set to experience lows of -2C in a matter of days, according to the latest weather maps from WXCharts

Temperatures could drop to -2C in England before the end of October as we head towards winter.

Weather maps from WXCharts, which uses Metdesk data, predict that freezing conditions will hit on Monday, October 27. Lows of -2C are expected in the North Pennines, according to the maps, with North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland set to also experience freezing temperatures.

Parts of Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent could also see the mercury drop to 0C. Freezing conditions are expected across parts of Wales near Brecon too. Meanwhile, maps show temperatures ranging from 0C to 1C in the Midlands and 3C in Cornwall and Devon.

The Met Office says unsettled conditions are likely until the end of the month. The long-range forecast from Thursday, October 23 to Saturday, November 1 reads: “An unsettled weather pattern is likely to dominate across the UK at the start of this period. Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, and strong winds are expected as a deep area of low pressure crosses the UK later next week.

“This system will likely move away slowly to leave the following weekend showery and cooler in a northerly flow. Into the following week, conditions are expected to be changeable with showers or longer spells of rain across many parts of the UK.

“The cool northerly will likely persist for the first part of the week and wettest weather will probably be in parts of the north. Temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly below normal for the time of year.”

As reported by the Express, the coldest counties with temperatures of 0C or below on October will be:

  • Northumberland
  • Durham
  • North Yorkshire
  • West Yorkshire
  • Cumbria
  • Greater Manchester
  • Lancashire
  • Staffordshire
  • Leicestershire
  • Northamptonshire

Looking at the first half of November, changeable and unsettled conditions are expected, the Met Office said. The long-range forecast from Sunday, November 2 to Sunday, November 16 says: “Changeable and unsettled with weather systems spreading from the west. These will bring spells of rain, heavy at times, and some strong winds, interspersed with drier, brighter, and less windy periods between systems.

“The heaviest rain will probably be across northern areas at first, migrating to western areas later. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal or slightly below.”

Meanwhile, a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for Northern Ireland and is in force from midnight until midday today. The warning says heavy rain could cause spray and flooding on roads and the risk of interruption to power supplies. Bus and train services could also be affected, with journey times taking longer than usual, the Met Office said.

The warning reads: “Heavy rain will spread across the whole of Northern Ireland on Saturday night, gradually clearing to the east on Sunday morning. The rain will be heaviest in the southeast, covered by the warning area, where 20-30 mm is expected to accumulate widely. Over the Mournes 60-100 mm could build up, much of this falling in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

UK 5 day weather forecast

Sunday:

Rain steadily clears east throughout Sunday, not clearing eastern areas until the evening. Dry for a time after, before scattered showers arrive from the west. Rather windy for all.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Blustery showers on Monday with thunder possible. Fewer and lighter showers on Tuesday with some sunny spells. Further rain possible on Wednesday. Rather windy at times and temperatures near average.
