Brits will need to dig out their winter gear as a -1C cold snap is set to sweep across the country. UK weather maps have turned an icy blue, signalling that freezing temperatures are on the horizon.

Weather maps from WXCharts, which uses Metdesk data, predict that freezing conditions will hit on Monday, October 27 – just in time for October half term.

Lows of -2C are expected in the North Pennines, according to the maps, with North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland set to also experience freezing temperatures.

Parts of Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent could also see the mercury drop to 0C. Freezing conditions are expected across parts of Wales near Brecon too.

The cold snap is set to continue as weather maps predict a staggering 19 counties will see temperatures take a nosedive in just over two weeks time on Tuesday, 4 November. It seems the new month will usher in sub-zero temperatures with Scotland and northern England expected to bear the brunt of the frosty weather.

The mercury is set to dip below zero at 6pm with Argyll, Stirlingshire and Argyllshire in Scotland all forecast for a chilly -1C.

Meanwhile, the South West can expect temperatures to drop to 0C while temperatures in the north east will fluctuate between a still freezing 1C to -1C.

Scotland’s capital is predicted to hit 0C whilst the Scottish borders are set to see temperatures reach 1C. Inverness is even forecast to experience 2cm of snowfall per hour, reports the Express.

England won’t escape the icy conditions either, with Cumbria and Northumberland both predicted to see the mercury fall to 0C.

Major cities in the north including Newcastle will see temperatures peak at a still nippy 2C.

The frosty weather only spreads further as we move into the early hours of Wednesday, 5 November with Cumbria and Northumberland set to see the mercury drop to below zero.

Elsewhere, Yorkshire and Lancashire are poised to record temperatures of 0C.

As the clock strikes midnight on November 5, weather maps predict that large parts of the Scottish Highlands will be blanketed in snow, with up to 3cm falling per hour. By the break of dawn, the whole of the Scottish Highland will be a winter wonderland, and even parts of south west Scotland will see a dusting of snow.

Here’s the full list of the 19 chilliest counties:

  1. Inverness-shire
  2. Ross-shire
