Rich in smuggling and fishing heritage, beyond the stunning vistas, one of Polperro’s finest attractions is their distinctive smuggling and fishing museum.
Polperro’s fishing legacy stretches back to 1303, according to Britain Express.
Nevertheless, it evolved into a smuggling centre when fishing began declining in the 18th century before stricter coastal patrol regulations took effect.

Food enthusiasts can also discover a selection of prize-winning pubs and eateries.
This includes Turntable pizza which boasts an exceptional perfect five stars on Tripadvisor. One reviewer wrote: “Really good, fresh pizza. The queue was out of the door, but considering that, the wait was not long. We had just arrived, were hungry and tired. The whole town was crowded and we couldn’t find a table anywhere. Perfect solution. We ate at our kitchen table and everyone loved it, especially the toddler. Warning though – the spicy pizzas are very spicy!”.
This charming village also serves as a magnet for artists, with art galleries scattered throughout the area.
You can cap off your visit by tackling the climb up the coastal footpath to gaze down at the stunning scenery of the village nestled below.
The South West coast path can also be reached from Talland Bay, allowing you to stroll from one bay to another and conclude your journey at Polperro.
Whilst some hikers caution that the route frequently runs very near to the cliff’s edge, others have enthused about the spectacular vistas.
One hiker wrote: “Amazing views . Park up for the day at the top of Polperro, meander through it’s picture perfect winding lanes and head out on the footpath to Talland Bay. There you will find a pretty little cove and cafe to rest a while before heading back to spend the rest of the afternoon back in Polperro. Plenty of lovely little shops, boat trips and excellent pubs and eateries.”
