Language experts at Preply have delved into Britain’s favourite urban retreats and singled out the most pedestrian-friendly spots. Claiming the silver medal is another spellbinding city, but according to Preplys data-crunching, York strides in as the nations third most foot-friendly city with all top five attractions reachable inside a 48-minute stroll.
York, with its Roman roots, offers an iconic silhouette led by the majestic 13th-century Minster gracing its skyline. It’s a dream for walkers as York boasts a stunning car-free zone ripe for ambling around. Amongst its cobbled lanes, The Shambles stands out, brimming with quirky shops, and allegedly giving J, reports the Express.
One Tripadvisor reviewer under ‘Iarke/Burgess’ exclaimed: “What a beautiful quaint place. This is full of charm and atmosphere. Lovely little shops with all sorts of goods.”
And ‘Happywanderer1960’ was equally smitten, noting: “Stunning street with fantastic stalls and shops with everything for everybody. All in all, fantastic shops and stalls.”
