An expert has revealed that there is one easy hack utilising a tea towel that can help properly dry the contents of your dishwasher after you have run a cycle – leaving glassware sparkling
You’ll never have to deal with streaky glasses again thanks to this clever trick.
Dishwashers are a godsend in many kitchens, saving us from the drudgery of washing up and freeing up precious time. But they’re not without their flaws – who hasn’t opened their dishwasher after a cycle to find dishes that aren’t quite clean, glasses with unsightly streaks, or items that haven’t dried properly?
That’s where this handy hack comes in. All you need is one of the most common household items: a tea towel. But don’t worry, you won’t be drying each item individually. Instead, you can make the most of your tea towel without any extra effort.
Eleanor Potter, head of strategic sourcing at Plumbworld, has a simple solution if you’re tired of opening your dishwasher to find damp dishes. She said: “There is a very simple step you can take to conquer this minor issue. Take a tea towel, open the dishwasher, and slide it down, with one end sticking out.
“Then close the door leaving the tea towel hanging inside. Because dishwashers clean at high temperatures it is the residual steam that forms moisture as it cools down.”
An expert has come forward with a tip for drying dishes: “But a tea towel placed inside, even for 10 minutes, will ensure this steam is absorbed and your crockery is dry, so it can be placed straight back into the cupboard.”
However, they caution that there’s something to watch out for, as “there is one word of warning”. They added: “Because you are opening the door and exposing the seal while the load is still hot, it could encourage a few nasties to form in there.”
To tackle this, they advise: “This is straightforward to sort out with an old toothbrush and some soapy water. Give it a quick blast once a week to keep it clean and looking good.”
It’s recommended to clean your dishwasher every three months for optimal performance, and this is a sentiment echoed by Finish, which stresses the use of special cleaning products. For a thorough cleaning, operate the dishwasher on an empty cycle at a minimum temperature of 60 degrees Celsius.
