The Food Standards Agency warns several Happy Pear hummus products have been recalled – in Northern Ireland only – because of fears they are “unsafe to consume”
Several hummus products have been recalled to supermarkets – because they are “ unsafe to consume”.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned shoppers to throw away or return multiple Happy Pear hummus items to shops because they may contain “animal matter”. These items include Happy Pear Red Pepper Hummus and Moroccan Style Hummus, popular dips for families.
But the warning only concerns these items bought across Northern Ireland, says the FSA. There are fears there that the dips may have been contaminated after contact with “animal matter,” though the FSA has not stated exactly what this substance is. Regardless, each of the dips are marketed as vegan friendly.
The FSA says: “The Happy Pear is recalling various products because they may contain animal matter. The possible presence of animal matter may make this product unsafe to consume… If you have bought any of the above products do not consume them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. The Happy Pear, based in County Wicklow, Ireland, has told shoppers it is “a precautionary measure”.
The firm, which specialises in plant-based items, said: “As a precautionary measure, The Happy Pear are recalling the above batches ofproducts which contain canned chickpeas as an ingredient, as a specific batch ofchickpeas which were used is subject to recall due to the possible presence of foreignmatter.If you have purchased the above batch of product, please do not consume it, return it to the store where it was purchased, where you will be issued with a refund. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.”
