Vet shares which dog breed is most ‘unstable’ – and it’s a popular family dog

Millions of people all over the world own pet dogs but, according to one vet, a very popular breed is most prone to being ‘unstable’ – and people can’t agree whether he’s right

A vet has humorously shared which breed of dog is the most “mentally unstable” and it’s a very popular choice for families and owners of all ages. Millions of people all over the world are dog owners, with the animal regularly topping the list as the most popular choice of pet.

There’s a wealth of breeds to choose from, with people making the choice on which to get based on qualities like a hypoallergenic or non-shedding coat, size, temperament, trainability and more.

Getting a dog is a serious commitment typically spanning 10-15 years, depending on the chosen animal’s lifespan. Dogs require constant care, attention, and commitment from their owners, so it’s important to weigh up all the pros and cons of pet ownership before deciding to do it.

During the research process, many prospective dog owners turn to social media looking for expert and first-hand advice and information. There’s a host of novices and professionals alike eager to weigh in with their opinions and insight online.

Popular veterinarian Dr Amir Anwary is a hit on social media, amassing hundreds of thousands of likes on TikTok thanks to his regular video uploads where he shares his guidance and recommendations. Alongside informative videos, he posts light-hearted clips of himself dancing while detailing humorous tales from his experiences with animals and their owners.

In a recent light-hearted clip, the vet shared what he believes to be the dog “most mentally unstable” dog breed. The video sees Dr Anwary moving in time to a song with text overlaid which reads: “Which dog breed is the most mentally unstable?”

After a few beats of music, the answer pops up in text above the vet. It states: “Cocker spaniel”. In the caption alongside his video, Dr Anwary simply added: “Without a doubt!!”

The cocker spaniel is known for its happy, energetic nature and, despite their liveliness, they’re also a very desirable breed thanks to their gentle and affectionate temperament.

The Kennel Club states: “The Cocker Spaniel earns the epithet ‘the merry cocker’ for his ever-wagging tail denoting his happy temperament. In the early 20th century the breed was at its height of popularity, and it remains hugely popular as a family pet.”

In the comments section beneath Dr Anwary’s video, fellow TikTok users were keen to share their thoughts. One person quipped: “And here I was, ready to accuse Chihuahuas”.

Another shared: “My older sister had a cocker spaniel. It would full on attack you over glazed donuts.” A third said: “Cocker rage is real!!!”

Someone else disagreed, writing: “You haven’t met my 3 cockers. They fall asleep at the vet after they’ve greeted everyone in their path.”

Another shared: “I say it is not a first owner dog. I raise them and you have to be firm in a nice and asserted way and not let them ‘claim’ you. That’s the most common mistake. I am a breeder of cocker spaniels.”

And another owner of cocker spaniels shared: “I had a cocker spaniel for 14 years and the only problem was separation anxiety”.

As with many social media content creators, it’s worth bearing in mind that Dr Amir Anwary’s videos are based on his opinions and own experiences.
