Victor Osimhen sets deadline for transfer decision after making five-man Man Utd shortlist

Victor Osimhen could be on the move again in the summer and has told Galatasaray he will inform them of his decision next month after joining the club on loan earlier this season

Victor Osimhen will inform Galatasaray of his future plans in April amid growing uncertainty over his future. Osimhen moved on loan to the Turkish side last summer having failed to agree a transfer away from Napoli.

Chelsea looked to be a likely destination in August, but the west London side could not come to an agreement. Osimhen’s future at Napoli became untenable as Antonio Conte signed star forward Romelu Lukaku despite the striker being contracted until 2026.

Osimhen has managed to maintain the reputation he built in Serie A, and has notched 26 goals in 30 appearances this term. That has ensured that there will be more transfer interest come the summer, when the 26-year-old’s loan ends.

Galatasaray chief Abdullah Kavukcu has revealed that Osimhen will provide some clarity over whether he could extend his stay this month. The vice-president suggested that the world’s best sides have already expressed their interest.

“Osimhen will inform us of his decision in April,” Kavukcu said, per Calcio Napoli 1926. “At the moment, the top five clubs in the world have also shown interest in him.”

Kavukcu has already accepted it will be difficult to convince Osimhen to remain at the club. “Osimhen’s arrival was a dream come true,” Kavukcu added. “Now he is here and playing for us.

“In January, there was talk of him leaving, but he stayed because he loves Galatasaray. Today, he is the player all our rivals would like to have.”

Osimhen has already made his way onto Manchester United’s transfer shortlist. The Nigeria international joins Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike as forward’s under consideration by Ruben Amorim’s side.

Liam Delap is also said to be a player under consideration having impressed at Ipswich Town. Osimhen would offer a blockbuster option however.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has already revealed the team are hoping to resolve his future quickly. They do not want a repeat of last summer’s drawn out process.

Speaking last month, Manna said: “Victor is always going to be a hotly-debated topic and not just on the transfer market.

“He is an appetising player for clubs, he has a clause and everyone knows this, we are working to find a solution as quickly as possible, so that we can avoid what happened last year.”
