One woman was left impressed after she used a viral lawn moss remover to get rid of the weed – and there’s no need to rake the grass after you’ve applied it
During the winter months, moss often takes hold and begins to spread, while come spring, weeds start to sprout up. Moss thrives in cool, damp environments, where the surrounding lawn provides shelter and support.
Additionally, it feeds on decaying organic plant material, including the “thatch” that accumulates on the soil’s surface beneath the grass. This thatch is composed of dead grass leaves and debris that builds up throughout the season. So, how can you effectively remove moss to revive your lawn for summer?

Determined to find a reliable lawn treatment to tackle moss, a woman sought advice from the Gardening UK Facebook page. Rachel Hadley asked: “Lawn treatment for moss. Any recommendations for a moss killer with no need to rake afterwards?
“In previous years have used the Vitax moss remover, but are there any others out there?” Group members offered various product suggestions in the comments section, with a focus on no-rake options.
Halina Waniec shared: “Richard Jacksons do one that is brilliant. quickly after I used it the moss disappeared from my lawn.” Janet Borril added: “I used Richard Jackson moss killer. It is great and does the job with no need to rake.”
According to Richard Jackson, his moss remover is an all-natural, plant-based lawn nutrient that gently nourishes the lawn for up to 12 weeks while naturally eradicating unsightly moss. He said: “Most gardeners use chemical-based moss killers to get rid of moss on their lawns, but these turn the dying moss black (so it looks horrible), and they can also scorch the lawn and stain the patio.
“Then you have to rake out the dying moss, which is often hard, back-breaking work. My new natural Moss Remover is a much better alternative.
“As the grass grows, the potash in the feed ‘over feeds’ the moss, which then gradually (after 20 days or so) dies back naturally, you’ll see it slowly turning brown. The granules also contain naturally occurring ‘friendly’ bacteria that then start to ‘eat’ the dying moss which gradually disappears as your grass grows.
“There’s no need to rake out the dying moss, nature does the work for you.” The Richard Jackson Moss Remover, available in a 5kg bag, is priced at £29.99 on Amazon and £34.99 on eBay, reports the Express.
For optimal results, Richard advises application between now and the end of September, as the bacteria require a soil temperature of at least 10C to function effectively.
Additionally, he notes the importance of maintaining moist soil conditions, as the bacteria’s efficacy may be reduced during hot or dry weather; under such circumstances, it is essential to keep the soil hydrated.
Finally, Richard warns that lawns heavily infested with moss may require patience, as it can take some time for the grass to fill in the patches left behind. A single 5kg bag of the Moss Remover can treat up to 100sqm of lawn when applied at a rate of 50g per sqm.
If your lawn is heavily infested with moss, you may need to apply 100g per sqm, which means one bag will cover 50sqm in total.
