Worcester Sauce flavoured crisp fans travelled to the city of Worcester yesterday to get their hands on the limited supply of the beloved British favourite after they were discontinued
Walkers relaunch their Worcester Sauce flavoured crisps
Crisp enthusiasts queued up to grab a packet of the much-missed Worcester Sauce flavour crisps, which have made a comeback since Walkers discontinued them in 2023.
Shoppers were overjoyed to discover that the crisps, flavoured with the authentic Worcestershire Sauce from Lea & Perrin, were back on the shelves. Some die-hard fans even travelled all the way from Glasgow to taste the first few packets fresh off the production line.
Eager crisp lovers formed a queue outside Charlie’s Convenience Store on Barbourne Road, in the Cathedral city of Worcester – the only shop currently stocking the crisps.
The store is managed by 31 year old Gubir Singh, affectionately known as Gav to the locals, whose family took ownership of the shop in 2019.
Speaking about the relaunch, Gav expressed: “I was honoured to be asked to help relaunch the Worcester Sauce flavour crisps.
“I’m playing a pivotal moment in the city’s history – I’d just encourage people to pay us a visit while stocks last.”
Four die-hard fans were among the first to get their hands on a bag. One such enthusiast, Katie Barnes from Kent, shared: “Today’s my 28th birthday and what better way to celebrate. I’ve been waiting years for this moment.”
She continued. ” I used to constantly go on about the Worcester Sauce flavour. I took a day off work and travelled over 150 miles to secure the goods – it’s the best birthday present ever.”
To mark the return of Walkers’ beloved Worcester Sauce flavour crisps, a massive six-metre inflatable replica of the iconic purple packet was floated down the River Severn on a barge.
The city of Worcester was plastered with the announcement through mobile billboards, individuals wearing sandwich boards, and branded beer mats.
Irina Panescu from Walkers, chimed in: “We’re bringing back our iconic Worcester Sauce flavoured crisps, and this time they’re even more Worcestershire-y with the help from our friends at Lea & Perrins.
“We’re sorry to disappoint fans but it’s only right that our limited supply is reserved for the people of Worcester. We’ve been floored by the reception from the locals as we painted the town purple.”
