Stefanie Daub and her husband decided to take a boat in Ses Balandres to explore Ibiza’s stunning coastline for a few hours, but were horrified to see huge 6ft snakes swim towards them
This is the terrifying moment a 6ft snake swims towards a couple’s boat off the coast of Ibiza – as tourists warn the plague is growing amid fears “there are too many.” With recent temperatures soaring above 30C in Spain, Stefanie Daub and her husband took a boat in Ses Balandres to explore the stunning coastline for a few hours.
However, soon into the trip, she noticed sudden movement in the sea. She alerted her husband, believing it to be a “big bird” or “fish” under the water.
But, to their horror, they realised it was a giant snake heading towards their boat. The tourist island has been suffering from a recent invasion of huge reptiles, prompting some tourists to refuse to enter the sea.
Stefanie told The Mirror: “I went out with my husband for a few hours on June 8, before I started work. We arrived in Ses Balandres and I saw a movement in the sea.

“I said to my husband “look there must be a big fish or a bird under the water”. He realised very quickly that it was a snake. We went closer and the snake swam behind the boat. It was really strange. I’m not afraid of snakes, but I don’t want to have them on the boat.
“We went away and for a long time we were watching around if she comes back. I was quite relaxed and had a little sleep after a while.”
Stefanie was informed a snake had tried to “enter a boat” a few days later, which left the couple uneasy. “Later on, I was told on another day a snake tried to enter on a boat. I was happy that my husband watched out for me all the time. I guess I would have been less relaxed if I would have been swimming in the water and the snake in my direction. I did not even know that they go into the ocean to swim. There are too many and getting more.”
The horrifying incident comes after the popular holiday destination has been recently plagued with terrifying 6ft snakes.
One horrified tourist posted on social media: “Tremendous…… The number of snakes there are, I’m already terrified of taking a dip…. Who would have thought this about 20 years ago…. It seems that a curse weighs, in the once paradisiacal and quiet IBIZA.”
Despite not being poisonous, it is common for snakes to enter the sea, according to experts.
Doctor in Biological Sciences, Antònia Maria Cirer said in other territories of the country it will be more difficult to see them in the water, but not in places like Ibiza, where it is common for them to end up taking refuge in boats located on land in winter.
“When the boat is then returned to the sea, the snakes leave and swim away until they reach the nearest point on land. It’s his instinct. This situation causes a general alarm throughout the territory,” he said.
