Watch Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy sing Oasis at Mirror’s Labour conference party

Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy took to the stage alongside former shadow cabinet member Jonathan Ashworth at the Mirror’s famous conference party

Cabinet members Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy gave a lively rendition of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back in Anger.

The frontbenchers were joined by former shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth as they took the mic at the famous Mirror party at the Labour Party Conference. Health Secretary Mr Streeting and Culture Secretary Ms Nandy were among the politicians who hit the stage to do karaoke.

The event got off to a poignant start as Justice minister Alex Davies-Jones sang a powerful rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone while accompanied by Hillsborough campaigners. Margaret Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James was among the victims of the 1989 tragedy, gave a powerful speech calling for a new law – which will prevent cover-ups – to be passed quickly without being watered down.

The party, in partnership with InHouse Communications with drinks supplied by Diageo, is an annual tradition on the evening after the Prime Minister’s keynote speech.

Mr Streeting enthusiastically took the microphone to sing Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, which saw him joined by Labour MP Oliver Ryan. Journalists, MPs and political staff took turns onstage as delegates let their hair down after an eventful few days.

Labour MP Mark Ferguson took on Pulp’s Common People, while Housing Secretary Steve Reed sang Sweet Caroline. MPs Jen Craft and Christian Wakeford performed Wheatus’ Teenage Dirtbag, while The Mirror’s Mikey Smith led a loud version of Green Day’s American Idiot.

Hundreds of guests packed into the party at the conference centre in Liverpool, with some enjoy themselves into the early hours of the morning. The famous Mirror Chicken, who has followed politicians around for decades, was there showing off some dance moves.

It came after Keir Starmer – who was not in attendance – gave a keynote speech vowing to take the fight to Nigel Farage.
