Some iPhone and Android users were complaining about an ‘annoying’ update to WhatsApp and all users will get it soon.
Mirror Online recently discovered a new WhatsApp update that suddenly began appearing on some devices. This change, which has been described by some as ‘annoying’, kills off the the popular ‘Typing’ function which appears at the top of the screen when friends and family are replying to a message.
It’s been a feature that WhatsApp users know and love but it’s now being replaced by three little dots that bounce around when a contact is typing a response.
It might seem like a very small change but it’s got many a little hot under the collar.
“Hello @ WhatsApp can we just go back to so and so is typing? This dot dot dot bouncing up and down is getting to be annoying,” asked Farah in a post on X.
Miss How exclaimed, “WhatsApp now has the three dots typing thing like iMessage and I Hateeeee it!”
Dots have been used by Apple’s iMessage for a while but this is the first time WhatsApp has adapted the system and it’s coming to all devices soon.
“We’re rolling out new Typing Indicators on WhatsApp, a visual update that shows who is present and typing in real-time within the chat screen.
“Now when someone starts typing in a group or 1:1 chat, a visual “…” cue appears at the bottom of the chat along with their profile picture.
“This new indicator helps you quickly see who’s available, typing, and actively engaged in the conversation, making it particularly useful in group chats.”
There’s no full timeline of a rollout but expect to see it taking over your replies over the coming weeks – sadly, if you also ‘hate it’ there’s nothing you can do to stop the change.
