When Premier League fixtures are announced for 2025/26 season with key dates confirmed

By staff24 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The Premier League is set to wind down for the summer this weekend but all the dates for all the action ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign have already been rubber stamped

The curtains are set to close on the 2024/2025 Premier League season this Sunday, yet fans will already have one eye on next year’s campaign. With the title wrapped by Liverpool in April, and relegation for Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City confirmed, all attention will now be on the race for the highly coveted Champions League spots.

As for how the top-flight will shape up next year, Leeds United and Burnley gained automatic promotion from the Championship and will compete in the 2025/26 Premier League.

The winner of the Championship play-off final between Sheffield United or Sunderland on Saturday will decide the last side to join the 20-team line-up for next season.

As ever the rapid nature of football, the key dates are already locked and loaded for 2025/2026 and so Mirror Football takes a look at all you need to know.

When are the Premier League fixtures for 2025/2026 released?

The release of the fixtures for the 2025/26 Premier League season has been confirmed to take place at 09:00 BST on Wednesday, June 18 2025. Next season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds.

Dates for all 380 Premier League matches will be released at that time on premierleague.com and via the Premier League’s official app.

When will the 2025/2026 season start?

Next season’s opening round will get underway on Saturday, August 16. The Premier League say that the start date of August 16 allows for the maximum player rest time available, which is 83 clear days from the end of the 2024/25 season.

The schedule is also said to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other.

In a blow to traditionalists everywhere, there will be no league fixtures on Christmas Eve next season. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the heavily congested Christmas and New Year schedule.

When will the 2025/2026 season end?

The final round of games will be played on Sunday, May 24 2026. This is to ensure that the season finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period, with the USA, Canada and Mexico-based tournament starting on Thursday, June 11 2026.

When will the transfer windows open and close?

The summer transfer window for Premier League clubs will open at an earlier time this year, set to be between Sunday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 10. This is due to an exceptional registration period for the expanded Club World Cup which runs from June 15 to July 13.

It will then open again on Monday, June 16 until Deadline Day on Monday, September 1. This summer’s transfer window will also slam shut four hours earlier at 7pm, rather than the usual 11pm deadline.

The winter window will open from January 1 to February 2, but no decision has yet been made on closing times.
