Princess Kate leads royal children into carriage ahead of Trooping the Colour
Princess Kate was spotted for the first time since her cancer diagnosis at the Trooping the Colour parade yesterday.
Buckingham Palace was keen to stress that this should not be conflated with the Princess making a return to full-time duties, but in her own statement, she said she planned to return to some form of public engagements with a majorly reduced timetable. She said that she’s already working from home when she can and easing herself back into meetings, all the while undergoing chemotherapy.
She still has several months of the gruelling treatment to go but said she does hope to attend some engagements over the summer period. Many had wondered whether she may have been going to Garter Day or Royal Ascot, which are due to happen over the coming weeks. But these events have been totally ruled out, it is understood.
Most summers, the Princess – who is a keen tennis fan and the Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club – often spends several days attending the Wimbledon tournament.
The accomplished player usually makes the two-week contest a firm date in her diary and even brings her two eldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte along with her last year. In previous years, the princess attended with her sister-in-law the Duchess of Sussex and her sister Pippa Middleton.
She could also show her face at the Japanese State visit, which runs from June 22 to 27, and is set to include a special exhibition at the Royal Collection and a spectacular State Banquet.
There are also a number of potential sightings which could emerge from her “bread-and-butter” duties”. The Princess said she’d been working from home, and it’s likely that some of that has involved her Early Years project, known to be her lifelong passion. It’s possible that we could see her at a function for that.
The Mirror has contacted Kensington Palace for comment, but they have confirmed they won’t be announcing appearances too far in advance. Palace officials also said that yesterday’s appearance should not be seen as her returning to full public duties.
