Coffee fans were left devastated when Pret cancelled their hugely popular subscription service – but luckily there are other chains where you can still get your fix for free
If you are longing for your free coffee fix after Pret cancelled its beloved subscription service – we’ve got you covered.
Thousands were left devastated when Pret a Manger scrapped their £30 a month subscription which allowed coffee fanatics to get five free drinks and cheaper food each day – and instead launched Club Pret. Club Pret is a £10 a month service, where fans get 50% off five drinks a day. But, if like many, this doesn’t suffice, there are other chains where you can get your discounted (or free) cup of joe and save some money on your morning coffee and help fuel your caffeine desires.
First up, Leon offers a monthly subscription for free coffee. For £25 a month as part of their Roast Rewards, the high street chain offers five barista-made drinks each day. Not only are they known for their delicious waffle fries, you can save 20% on breakfasts and all day-food (except meal deals). The catch is that while you can use the food discount as much as you desire, you can only order one coffee an hour.
Next up is The Coffee Club, whose subscription covers a range of high-street coffee shops which include Caffè Nero, Black Sheep Coffee, The Foundation Coffee House, Crepe Affaire, Ditto Coffee, and FCB Coffee. Coffee fans can pay just £2.99 a month and get 25% off barista-made drinks all day every day of the week. There is also the option to pay annually for just £24.99 as well.
Costa Coffee is another great option. Although it doesn’t have a subscription service, its Costa Club offers have some pretty decent benefits. Each drink you buy rewards you with a virtual bean, and once you have 10, you can then get a free drink of choice – and you are awarded extra beans if you bring your own reusable cup too.
Blank Street also offer members discounts on coffee, pastries and merch, as well as offering members 14 free drinks a week – any size and hot or iced, and they can be redeemed every 30 minutes, and 20% off extra drinks too all for just £12 a month. However, it’s extremely exclusive and the waitlist is currently full.
Pret scrapped its subscription offering earlier this month and Pret UK&I Managing Director Claire Clough issued a message to subscription fans revealing: “Four years and over a quarter of a billion coffees later, we have decided that it’s time to rethink how it works,” as she said there were certain elements to the scheme they were never that comfortable with. She added: “Given the majority of our customers are not Club Pret subscribers, our priority now is to focus on better value for everyone.”
