A woman has reportedly been airlifted to hospital after she had her arm ripped off following a horrific lion attack at a zoo.
The woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, was reportedly mauled at Darling Downs Zoo near Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, at around 8.23am on Sunday, July 6. The woman was flown to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital with a ‘significant arm injury’.
In the early hours of this morning he zoo posted on Facebook: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the zoo will be closed all day today. One prerson commented: “Wishing the handler a speedy recovery,” another said: “Sorry to hear. Hope the staff member recovers and the zoo continues to do the amazing work it does.”

No further information on the injured woman or her condition has been released as of yet.
Darling Downs Zoo’s managing director Steve Robinson has been keeping African Lions, and managing their husbandry and welfare, for nearly 50 years. With his wife, Stephanie, they began breeding lions in 1997. In 2002 they moved their animal collection to the Darling Downs and started building the Darling Downs Zoo.
The zoo has tawny lions and rare white lions, as well as two lion cubs. The zoo also homes other big cat species like Sumatran tigers, cheetahs and leopards.
