A woman who goes by Geo on TikTok has given a glimpse into how much a supermarket shop costs her while living in Spain, and it’s left Brits with a lot to say
Many of us fantasise about ditching our mundane routines for a sun-soaked life abroad, lounging by the pool with ample time to unwind.
Yet, we can’t help but wonder if this idyllic dream aligns with reality. Offering a glimpse into expat life, a woman shared her supermarket shopping experience in Spain, leaving viewers astonished.
Geo, a Brit living in Spain, frequently documents her adventures on TikTok under the handle geoinspain. In a recent video, she divulged the costs of everyday items, sparking surprise among her audience.
Dishwasher tablets, for instance, set her back €5.95, equivalent to £4.91. A packet of four bagels cost €4.50, or £3.71.
Geo confessed that since moving to Spain, she’s opted for almond milk over dairy, which costs €1.25, or £1.03. She also snagged four apples for €1.50, or £1.24, and a litre of juice for a mere €1, or 83p.
The video showcases her other purchases, along with some valuable advice. When it comes to fresh produce, Geo recommends visiting a dedicated fruit and vegetable shop, claiming it’s “much better” than supermarket shopping in Spain.
Although she admits being “out of touch” with UK prices, she invited viewers to share their thoughts on how the costs compare. Since hitting social media, the video has attracted several views and prompted an array of mixed reactions in the comments.
People didn’t hold back, delivering a variety of takes on the matter. One chimed in with a comparison, claiming: “Definitely cheaper than the UK.”
Meanwhile, another commented: “I haven’t been to England for four or five years. I have no idea what the prices are like over there. I think chicken is expensive, but I don’t know what it is in England to compare.”
A third pondered the economic disparities, suggesting: “Think about the salaries there too.”
Meanwhile, another shared personal shopping strategies, saying: “I go to the markets for fresh fruit and veg. Supermarkets tend to be more expensive. Just bought some blueberries today – €8.50. Nearly dropped to the floor.”
When it came to her bill, it’s clear people had very different opinions on how expensive it was. The topic certainly got a lot of people talking though.
