Olivia Foley, 21, flew from the UK to Norway to meet her dad Andrew, 42, and brother Frankie, 17, to drive to the remote town of Älvdalen, Sweden after spotting a TikTok about the ski through McDonald’s – ‘McSki’
A woman jetted off to Sweden just to experience the world’s only ski-through McDonald’s.
Olivia Foley, 21, planned a ski trip with her dad Andrew, 42, to the Lindvallen ski resort in Sälen, Sweden after seeing a TikTok about the unique McDonald’s – dubbed ‘McSki’. Olivia and her brother Frankie, 17, flew from Manchester to Oslo, Norway where their dad picked them up and drove back to his home in Drammen. Two days later, they embarked on a five-and-a-half-hour drive to the resort.
They checked into Hotel Älvdalen, a 40-minute drive from Lindvallen, and headed straight for the slopes and McSki. Despite the lengthy journey to try the one-of-a-kind McDonald’s, Olivia insisted it was “worth it”. Olivia, an accountant from Ormskirk, Liverpool, said: “It was a mission to get to because my dad lives in Norway which was really helpful. I saw a video of someone skiing to find this McSki and me and my dad were immediately sold.”
Olivia and her dad have been going on ski trips together for the last seven years since Andrew, a lead project engineer, moved to Drammen, Norway, in October 2020. When Olivia spotted the videos of the McSki in Sweden, she knew she had to give it a go – and asked her dad to join her.

The family set off from Drammen, Norway by car for five and a half hours to the small town of Älvdalen, Sweden in February 2024. The town, home to just 8,000 residents, is known for its quirky shops and Rover estate cars. Olivia shared her unique holiday experience, saying: “It was so deep into the forests – I felt so far away from home.”
She found the local entertainment quite unusual, where “The main form of entertainment was where people drive old Rover’s blasting music.” A highlight for her was a guitar museum featuring “some of Elvis Presley’s most famous guitars.”
The family wasted no time hitting the slopes and even tried out the McDonald’s ski through. Olivia remarked: “It was a normal standard McDonald’s. It was fairly busy inside. It’s just a normal McDonald’s but in the middle of a ski slope.”
She was amused by the novelty of the place, noting: “There was a cool feature where it was a ski through and there is only one in the world. It was standard burgers nuggets and chips, but they didn’t have the extras like they do in the UK.
“We got a hot chocolate milkshake, the nuggets, chips, and a burger and it was the similar price to the price of the UK. The long journey was absolutely worth it and I would go back again.”
