Tyler Kerry, 20, was found dead at the bottom of a lift shaft at the Trendy Lara Hotel in Antalya, Turkey last Friday – and his grandmother Collette says his death is a ‘mystery’
A woman who found her grandson dead at the bottom of a lift shaft on holiday is desperate to know what happened to him.
Tyler Kerry, 20, from Pitsea in Essex, had been on the getaway with his girlfriend and family in Antalya, Turkey when when he was found dead at the Trendy Lara Hotel last Friday. It had been believed that he may have opened the door believing the lift had arrived walked through into the empty shaft – but his grandma, Collette Kerry, now says that Turkish police told her they were treating his death as suspicious. She added that it remains “a mystery” how he ended up in the lift shaft
Mrs Kerry told the BBC: “It doesn’t seem real. It’s like I’m in a living nightmare. It’s a mystery about how he ended up there.” She explained that Tyler’s brother and cousin, who were the last people to see him alive sleeping on sofa in the hotel, had left him for “a few minutes” to get a drink but returned to find him gone. Collete said she was first alerted by her other grandson who banged on her door to say Tyler had fallen, before they found him “flat on his face” in the lift shaft in the basement of the hotel
His body is due to be repatriated to the UK. Tyler’s uncle, Alex Price, earlier paid tribute to Tyler saying: “He was an energetic, exuberant young lad who was just settling into his life. He had a stable job, had just got himself a new car and was beginning to think about moving in with his girlfriend.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise money for the grieving family to cover funeral costs, which has so far raised over £5,700. Alex continued: “We are asking for any donations towards the unforeseen costs of dealing with the consequences of such a tragic incident. Tyler’s Mum Rachael is currently at home looking after her two youngest boys and will be desperate to get out to Turkey and bring Tyler home.”
