A woman has shared her ‘genius’ hack to banish cold hands at home without spending a penny this winter – and people can’t believe they didn’t think of it sooner
Cold hands are about to be a thing of the past thanks to one woman’s genius trick.
If you work from home or spend a lot of time at your computer, you’ll know how horrible the cold weather can be on your poor hands – especially if you don’t want to waste money having the heating on all day. You can’t stuff your hands in your pockets because you need them to type, and using a mouse with gloves on just feels wrong, so you end up feeling as though your fingers are going to fall off no matter how warm the rest of your body might be.
However, one woman on social media might just have come up with the perfect solution to keep cold hands at bay this winter. And what’s more, it won’t cost you a penny as the only thing you need is a woolly hat, which most of us already own.
Vicki Alderman shared the trick on her @vickialderman account on TikTok, where she said that she wears fingerless gloves to work but has found her fingers still get “so cold they hurt”, especially on the hand that she uses her mouse with.
So to combat the cold, Vicki said she takes a woolly hat and puts her mouse mat and mouse inside the hat. This way, whenever she needs to use her mouse she gets to put her hand inside the cosy warm hat, and her fingers never get cold.
She explained: “Here’s a little cold weather hack for you if your fingers get cold when you’re working on your laptop, even if you’re wearing your fingerless gloves like me, especially the hand that’s on your mouse. My fingers get so cold they hurt, but not anymore because now I do this.
“Get yourself a woolly hat, put your mouse mat and your mouse inside your hat and you’ve got yourself a lovely little warm mouse pad muff. It works brilliantly at keeping your hands warm. I better get back to work – till next time! Hope this helps.”
Vicki later confirmed that her hack “works great” and said it was “such a relief” to have found a solution to her “painful cold fingers”. Most of us will have a warm hat at home already, but if you do need to buy one, Amazon stocks several different varieties for as little as £9.
Commenters on the post were blown away by the hack, with many branding it “genius” and others saying they couldn’t believe they hadn’t thought of trying it themselves sooner. One person said: “Genius and so cute,” while another added: “Love it! Always have cold hands!,” and a third posted: “That’s so smart, love it.”
One person said it was “dystopian” that people even need to think about these hacks as “homes should be warm”, and Vicki replied: “I know, but I try not to dwell. I’m thankful to have a safe home, even if it is a little cold.”
