Cleaning the oven is a tedious task, but it’s even worse when you have to scrub away at the greasy residue that always seems to be on the glass door – one woman has now shared a simple hack which uses just one natural item to get the job done in minutes
The oven is one of the most utilised appliances in many homes, and while it aids in creating delicious meals, an unfortunate by-product is the build up of grease and grime. Despite efforts to prevent oven messes with baking trays and liners, there’s not much that can be done to halt the build-up of grease on your oven door.
The fats and oils from food evaporate as the oven warms up, but then condense when it cools down, leaving a greasy layer on the door. If you don’t clean your oven after each use (and let’s be honest, who does?), the grease will continue to accumulate, making it increasingly difficult to remove over time.

Fortunately, there’s a natural solution for removing that unpleasant sticky layer of food residue from your oven door, and it won’t require too much elbow grease, which is great news if you haven’t cleaned your oven in a while.
Cleaning gurus suggest that a lemon is all you need to eliminate the grease and grime from your oven door, leaving it smelling fresh and clean in just five minutes, reports the Express.
The citric acid in lemon juice effectively dissolves and cuts through grease, making it perfect for cleaning glass without leaving any unsightly streaks or residue. Plus, it’s chemical-free and leaves a lovely, fresh scent, eliminating the need for artificial fragrances.
Oven Detailing shares a top tip for those smudged, greasy oven doors: “If your oven door glass is covered in smudges, grease, and fingerprints, you don’t need expensive chemical cleaners to fix it.
“Lemon juice is a natural, non-toxic cleaner that cuts through grease and leaves your oven door streak-free and smelling fresh.”
For a sparkling oven door, just take a halved lemon, give it a good rub over the glass, wait five minutes, then wipe off with a warm, moist cloth. No fresh lemons? About three tablespoons of bottled lemon juice are just as effective.
When faced with stubborn grime, Oven Clean suggests steam cleaning with lemons for that extra oomph: “If you’re looking to get rid of some tough grease and dirt on the inside of your oven, try a little steam cleaning.”
They instruct: “Fill an oven-proof bowl with water. Take one or two lemons (limes would also work), cut them in half and squeeze the juice into the bowl. Place the bowl in the oven. Close the door of your oven, and turn your oven on.”
They continue: “Keep an eye on the water, and as soon as you see it start to boil, turn the oven off, allowing it to cool down with the door closed, while the steam circulates.
“This great little trick will help with dislodging some of the grime and grease, giving you a head start to a quick and easier oven clean.”
