A woman has shared her “life-changing” cleaning hack that removes burnt stains from stove tops in just 24 hours – and all you need is oven cleaner and cling film
Let’s be honest, most of us don’t clean our stovetops as often as we should, and that can leave us with those stubborn stains and burn marks around the burners that just won’t budge.
However, one cleaning guru has claimed there’s no need for endless scrubbing – there’s a simple solution to get rid of that burnt-on mess with just a few household items and a bit of patience.
A TikTok user named Auri captivated followers with her “best cleaning hack” for tackling those tough stains on stovetops, suggesting nothing more complicated than oven cleaner and some cling film.
In her viral clip, found on her @aurikatariina handle, she demonstrated spraying the cleaning agent over the tarnished areas encircling each burner before wrapping the entire surface in cling film.
Brace yourself, because the trickiest step is waiting a full 24 hours for the chemicals to work their magic. She preached in her video: “This life hack will change your life. Spray oven cleaner on the burnt surface. Place cling film on top of it. Wait 24 hours.”
After a day, Auri revealed the result, pulling away the plastic to show the grime had been lifted – left with only a black residue to clean off. Starting with a Scour Daddy – a tough scrubber from Scrub Daddy – she tackled any leftover marks, and then simply wiped away the remaining dirt with an ordinary cloth.
She exclaimed: “The stains have melted off! Scrub it with a Steel Daddy [and then] wipe it clean.” Auri concluded her cleaning spree with some stove polisher, bringing each hob back to its shiny black best, leaving the stove looking as good as new.
Although various oven and kitchen cleaners might work for Auri’s tip, you can snag a Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner for £3 at Wilko. Also available there, cling film starts at just 70p. You can get your hands on Scour Daddy pads at multiple retailers such as The Range, setting you back £3.99 for three.
Viewers of the video were astounded by the ease with which she dispatched persistent stains from stovetops, earning the method high praise and calling it “amazing”. One viewer remarked: “Amazing!!” Another was equally impressed: “This is honestly amazing, I can’t believe you made it look brand new.”
Responding to the influx of admiration for her cleaning prowess, Auri said: “I know right? Cleaning is like magic!” Meanwhile, some viewers pondered what one should eat when their oven is out of commission for 24 hours, prompting Auri to suggest that if takeout or other meal arrangements weren’t doable, simply applying the product overnight rather than a full day might suffice.
