By staff3 April 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Here are some tips and tricks to help you find the answer to the Wordle edition of Thursday April 3, 2025 – the popular word game was played some 4.8 billion times in 2023 alone

It has become something of an internet sensation for problem-solvers – in fact, hundreds of thousands make it part of their daily routine.

But Wordle’s creator, software engineer Josh Wardle, had originally only shared it with family and friends. Once word spread (pun intended!), its popularity rocketed and The New York Times snapped up the word game for an undisclosed “seven-figure sum” in early 2022.

Wordle is now one of the biggest search trends on Google as players desperately look for hints and clues to the daily goal – a five-letter word. Players get six attempts to guess what it is by entering letters into a grid (the grid tiles change colour to indicate whether or not the letter is in the word, and if it’s in the right place).

So here the Mirror offers hints to today’s golden word – and the answer itself so beware of the spoiler. Try it yourself first as, like other puzzles, Wordle is built around problem-solving so is essentially a mini workout for the brain. Speaking previously, Dr Emer MacSweeney, CEO and consultant neuroradiologist, had said: “Keeping the brain and mind active is hugely important for all stages of life, maintaining cognitive function, promoting mental agility and supporting overall wellbeing. There are many cognitive benefits of playing Wordle. Regular play can enhance brain function by stimulating critical thinking, problem-solving skills and memory retention.”

What’s the best Wordle starting word?

The best starting word on Wordle is the one that speaks to you. However, if you prefer to be strategic in your approach, we have some ideas to help you pick a word that might help you find the solution faster. One tip is to select a word that includes at least two different vowels, plus some common consonants like S, T, R, or N.

Is Wordle getting harder?

It might feel like Wordle is getting harder, but it actually isn’t any more difficult than when it first began. You can turn on Wordle’s Hard Mode if you’re after more of a challenge, though.

Here is a subtle hint for today’s Wordle answer:

Is it lambing season?

Today’s Wordle is a 5-letter word that starts with…

The letter S.

The Wordle answer today is…

Drumroll please… Shear.

Guessing the words correctly is no doubt a buzz especially if you can do it in fewer than six tries! We might also be expanding our language skills in the process.

Ms MacSweeney added: “It can also help expand the vocabulary, as new words are encountered and learnt with each session, supporting linguistic growth. The game also promotes language skills and comprehension, reinforcing spelling and grammar rules.”

Jasper Clow, a B2B editorial specialist and copywriting tutor at Tangerine, added: “There [are] more benefits than just exposing yourself to new words. When you play Wordle, you’re getting your hands on and experimenting with the smaller structures and sounds that form words, learning how they go together, and improving your grasp of the foundations of language. It’s well worth five minutes for something that will make you a better writer, reader, and thinker.”
