‘World’s healthiest fish’ scores 89 out of 100 and is one of the tastiest

By staff10 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The BBC has compiled a list of the planet’s most nutritious foods, and one fish in particular has been crowned the ultimate superfood

Seafood enthusiasts will be delighted to discover that one particular fish delivers extraordinary health advantages.

Topping the nutritional charts, a specific fish has been hailed as the ultimate superfood according to the BBC’s ranking of the world’s most nourishing foods – it’s the ocean perch.

Ditch your standard fillet – ocean perch is outperforming its rivals, securing an impressive 89 out of 100 on the nutritional leaderboard.

This isn’t just fishing for compliments: delivering a protein powerhouse with approximately 20 grams per 100g portion and merely 79 calories, according to Facts.net, this deep-sea treasure won’t flood you with saturated fats either.

But there’s more good news for foodies.

The rockfish, as it’s sometimes known, is merely scratching the surface when it comes to delicious and nutritious foods.

Salmon continues to make waves with its omega-3 fatty acids – an essential as our bodies cannot make them independently.

Meanwhile, an unlikely vegetable has been branded the “healthiest vegetable on Earth”, following research that revealed the facts about its exceptionally dense nutrient profile.

Taking inspiration from the Centre for Disease Control’s methodology, which evaluates foods according to their vitamin and mineral levels, it’s evident that dietary variety could be the key. Beating other nutrient-dense vegetables like spinach, chard, and beetroot greens that achieve scores in the 80s, watercress stands out as the ultimate leafy green with a perfect rating of 100.

Jennifer Di Noia, an associate professor of sociology at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, explained: “Higher-ranking foods provide more nutrients per calories.”

And for those eager to broaden their healthy snacking options, the crown for the “world’s healthiest snack” went to honey, which also delivers incredible health advantages.

It’s a potent superfood worth incorporating into your daily routine.

Scientists have discovered that it can genuinely support numerous potential wellness benefits in humans.

It is fundamentally a natural liquid sugar composed of glucose, fructose and various minerals.

Given that honey is almost purely sugar, it might not appear to be an ideal choice for regular consumption initially.

However, this fat-free marvel does contain a substantial quantity of health-boosting plant compounds in every serving.

It’s packed with antioxidants – which are scientifically proven to help lower the risk of specific health issues like cancers, infections, and other long-term illnesses.
