A group of travellers including Gunnar Garfors, who has visited every country twice, and 25-year-old Basanth Sadasivan, the youngest person to do the same, have shared their top destination tips
Five of the globe’s most seasoned travellers have shared their top holiday spots, favourite nightclubs and street food recommendations.
The group of seasoned travellers includes Gunnar Garfors, who has visited every country twice, and 25-year-old Basanth Sadasivan, the youngest person to do the same.
Rachel Davey and Martina Sebova, who have toured every country on a £27 daily budget, and Renee Bruns – who has explored many wheelchair accessible locations across the globe – also shared their favourite destinations.
They got together to discuss which countries they would recommend for different reasons. They rated Phnom Penh in Cambodia as the best value for money, where attractions like the Wat Phnom Temple cost as little as £1.
Cartagena on Colombia’s Caribbean coast was praised for its affordable accommodation, while Cairo in Egypt boasts free-to-visit Muslim and Coptic Christian landmarks. The experts also shared tips for the best night out, street food, and must-visit locations, as part of Skyscanner’s new online pop-up, Everywhere Agency.
They have given their tips following the publication of research which found that 30% of travellers find choosing their next holiday destination overwhelming due to cost concerns and difficulty deciding where to go.
For an unforgettable night out, the experts suggest Havana in Cuba, Seoul in South Korea, Budapest in Hungary or Buenos Aires in Argentina. Vienna’s Kasekrainer cheese sausages are hailed as the most amazing street food. Other top picks include Pad Pak Ruam and Kanom Jeen Nam Ngeaw from Chiang Mai’s night markets.
For once-in-a-lifetime experiences, try windsurfing around the ABC Islands in the Caribbean, glacier hiking in Bergen, Norway, snorkelling in Flores, Indonesia or paragliding over Cappadocia, Turkey.
A study of 2,000 holidaymakers found 83% want to explore new places in 2024, but half struggle to find unique locations. Three quarters crave inspiration beyond the usual spots highlighted by social media, TV and film.
A whopping 63% of people trust advice from seasoned travellers more than tips from social media, according to a survey. Laura Lindsay, from Skyscanner, said: “The ability to search for flights which reach ‘Everywhere’ can help inspire people to visit destinations they might not have considered. We empower and equip travellers with the tools they need to discover and enjoy new destinations within their budget.”
