Pixel lovers may find their current devices look a little outdated this week. Google has now officially confirmed that its new 9a is finally going on sale in the UK, and it’s one to watch out for if you fancy plenty of upgrades on a much smaller budget.

In fact, this latest and greatest Android call maker starts from just £499. For that reasonably low price, you’ll get a device that has a colourful design, a bright 6.3-inch display, speedy 120Hz refresh rate for silky smooth scrolling and a toughened body that is built to last.

On the rear case is a dual-lens snapper, which offers macro and wide-angle shots plus the option to film pixel-packed 4K videos.

Other extras tucked inside the Pixel 9a include long battery life, up to 256GB, fast and wireless charging, plus there’s the powerful Google Tensor G4 processor tucked inside.

Like all new devices, there is also a swathe of AI features such as Circle to Search for finding things on the web, Magic Editor for retouching images in a flash and Add Me, which lets you place more people in photo after it’s been taken.

There’s even access to the supremely smart Gemini Live personal assistant, which allows you to chat to the device just like it’s a real person.

Pixel 9a also comes with seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drops; plus there are a number of fruity colours to choose from including Iris (blue) and Peony (pink)

If that sounds enticing, here are a few pre-order deals.

It’s been a busy few months for budget smartphone launches. Samsung recently released its new Galaxy A Series of devices, and Apple now has its iPhone 16e available, which includes many of the iPhone 16’s upgrades without the high price.
