If your bra straps keep falling off your shoulders even when you’ve fully tightened them, it could be because you’re wearing your bra incorrectly – and you need to make one change
You could stop your bra straps from falling down with one easy fix.
If you wear bras, you’ll know the struggle of finding one that actually fits you correctly. We’ve all struggled with back sizes and cup sizes that don’t seem to make any sense, and finding a bra that doesn’t dig into your skin or leave you with excess room in the cups can feel like hitting the jackpot.
But it’s not just the clasps and the cups that can give us trouble. Bra straps are also notoriously fiddly, and many of us know the feeling of having to stick our hands down our shirts to pull the straps back onto our shoulders once they’ve slipped off. According to one woman, however, there could be a simple reason why your straps are loose.
Madison Anne shared a video on TikTok in which she said that if you’ve tightened your bra straps all the way and still find that they’re slipping down, it could be because you’re wearing the wrong bra size.
She said: “If your bra straps are constantly falling off of your shoulders, even if you have tightened them all the way, I’m willing to bet money that the most probable reason is that the band size of the bra that you’re wearing is too big for you.
“Let me explain why. The band of your bra that goes around the whole part of your body is responsible for providing the most support out of the rest of your bra. Up to like 90% of the support. If your band is not the right size, that means your cups are not fitting properly, your straps are not fitting properly, and everything else is screwed up.”
Madison said there could be other reasons for your straps slipping, too, such as being very petite or having a particularly short distance between your shoulders and your breasts. However, wearing the wrong bra size is the most common reason and the easiest to fix – you just need to try bras with smaller back sizes.
She explained that you can tell if your bra is too big for you by pulling at the back of it when it’s on. If it’s too big, you’ll be able to pull the band “really far back away from you”. If you can fit your whole fist between the band and your back, then the band is too big. A correctly fitting bra should only pull away “about one to two inches”.
Commenters on the post thanked Madison for her helpful advice, and many shared how their bra size changed when they got a professional fitting. Often, when you go down a back size, you may need to go up a cup size to find the perfect fit.
One person said: “Yep, when I was a teen I wore a 32C and they always fell down! I was a 28DD.” Another added: “Thank you! I just ordered a smaller banded bra.”
