There’s a lenghty list of nightclubs we’ve loved and lost over the years, with research revealing that a third of them have closed since 2020, following the pandemic, cost of living crisis and increase in bills
Nightclubs, with their flashing dancefloors, enticing drink offers, and blaring hits from the DJ booth, have been around for decades. But in the last five years, almost 380 nightclubs have shut their doors, with a third of those being some of the UK’s most loved venues.
Some of the most recent closures include MooMoo in Essex, which shut after seven years, and Motion in Bristol, which was known for hosting some of the world’s top DJs. In addition, Rekom UK, Britain’s biggest nightclub operator behind the Atik and Pryzm chains, went under in February last year, closing a long list of their beloved venues.
Industry body the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) revealed that a third of nightclubs nationwide have closed since 2020, with numbers plummeting from 1,240 venues to just 863. The coronavirus pandemic, the cost of living crisis and soaring bills for venue owners have been blamed for the swift decline.
While we have fond memories of treasured nights on sticky dancefloors and Jägerbombs deals, we’ve taken a look back at a handful of those we’ve lost.
From Pryzm and Popworld venues to Liquid and MooMoo Clubrooms, each brought its own lively entertainment before shutting its doors forever.
