A man has said he was left ‘speechless’ after a fellow motorist confronted him at traffic lights over the colour of his car – as she believed he’d been ‘copying’ her
Driving can be a stressful experience, with road rage being a common occurrence for many motorists.
Whether it’s someone cutting you off or tailgating you, there are plenty of reasons to get annoyed behind the wheel. But one man has shared an unusual encounter with an irate driver who was not upset about his driving skills, but rather the colour of his car.
In a bizarre tale, the man revealed he was accosted by a woman who accused him of “copying” her car’s colour. The incident occurred while he was waiting at a traffic light in his 2019 Ford Ranger, which is painted in a unique shade called Hot Chilli Pepper Red.
This particular colour, he explained, is a rare option that costs an additional $750 (£567) to have applied to the vehicle. However, the woman was incensed upon seeing his car because hers was the same colour, leading her to believe he had intentionally copied her.
In a post on Reddit, the man wrote: “According to her it was a limited edition colour that was exclusive to a certain package in the Bronco that year and I was copying her. She accused me of painting my truck to copy her car and demanded – and she really hit the high notes on the word ‘demand’ – that I change it back.
“All of this happened at a stop light and I just sat there watching this grown-a** adult lose her ever-loving-s**t at me over the colour of our cars. Only later did it occur to me that I should have recorded it.”
The man pointed out that Ford offers around 10 or 12 different car colours, which made the woman’s shade far from unique he certainly wasn’t the only person driving around with that colour. He lightheartedly added that his car was a 2019 model whereas the lady’s was a 2021, so if anyone was copying, technically, she was copying him.
Social media users chimed in on the saga with a mix of amusement and shared frustration. Some commenters even recounted their own car colour clashes.
One said: “Some people are just so certain that the world revolves around them and them alone. I mean, how DARE you have a car the same colour?!”.
Another contributed their story: “I have a custom colour wrap on my car and a few months after I got it wrapped a sedan of a different model but the same wrap colour pulled in front of me in traffic before dropping to the right lane from me and slowing down to laugh and wave and thumbs up.”
