Over New Year, opening times for supermarkets are a bit of a mixed bag as you may find opening times are slightly shorter, while some stores won’t be open at all
The final celebration of the Christmas period is here, and if you’re going big or marking the New Year in a much more understated way, you’ll likely need to head off to the shops for some supplies.
Over New Year, opening times for supermarkets are a bit of a mixed bag as you may find opening times are slightly shorter, while some stores won’t be open at all. Aldi is one of the only supermarket chains in the UK to be shutting all of its sites on New Year’s Day. So sadly, you will not be able to pop to your local Aldi for breakfast bits on January 1.
Aldi will be opening on New Year’s Eve, so you will have time to pick up what you need for the festivities. From December 27, Aldi will be opening from 8am until 8pm everyday except Sunday, December 29 as it will only be opening from 9:30am until 4pm. For the first 30 mins of the day, you can only browse under Sunday trading laws.
After closing on New Year’s Day, Aldi will reopen under its normal hours once again on January 2. Usually, Aldi stores open between 7am and 8am and close at 10pm.
In its Christmas hours announcement, Aldi warned that store opening times could vary by location. So before heading down to your local store, you should always double check the opening hours as there is nothing worse than arriving to only find it closed. You can do this by using Aldi’s store finder tool on its website here. All you need to do is enter your postcode to find your closest store. This will then tell you the exact opening hours for this location.
Aldi is part of a very small group of supermarket chains, which includes fellow German discounter Lidl, that close their doors on New Year’s Day.
