Aldi has done it again, and this time the supermarket’s latest fashion drop has sent social media into a frenzy.

The budget-friendly retailer has launched a jacket potato jacket, and yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. A fun outerwear piece inspired by the nation’s favourite comfort food.

The launch comes after the success of Aldi’s past novelty merch, from its popular ‘Aldimania’ hoodies to its Adidas-inspired slides, however this drop is definitely the most divisive yet.

Findings from Aldi found that 40% of the nation believe October is the start of jacket potato season, so it’s only right Aldi are celebrating in style with what it’s calling ‘comfort-food chic’.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK said: “We know our customers love jacket potatoes, so launching this jacket made sense, especially now the temperatures are dropping.

“Our latest creation will keep jacket potato fans cosy this season, taking inspiration from one of the nation’s favourite comfort foods. Enjoying a jacket potato in Aldi’s new Jacket Potato Jacket is sure to be a mash made in heaven!”

Teaming up with Agro Studio (known for working with Lady Gaga and Beyonce), the cosy golden-brown puffer jacket features a pattern that resembles the crispy outside of a jacket potato.

This is complete with a fluffy fleece lining that will keep you warm in the chilly months.

Some fans are calling it “brilliant”, “iconic”, and the “number one item on my Christmas list”, while others aren’t so convinced they’d step out in a coat that looks straight out of the oven.

If you’re wondering how to get your hands on one of these novelty jackets, shoppers can try for one via a giveaway on the supermarket’s TikTok and Instagram channels. Entries close on the 23rd October.

Whether you think it’s genius or not, there’s no denying it’s got people talking, and Greggs, with its past sausage roll-inspired fashion collabs, now has some serious competition.
