Ama Diallo has primarily been deployed as the right wing-back when selected by Ruben Amorim in his 3-4-3 formation, but the coach opted to play him further forward in Manchester United’s trip to Viktoria Plzen

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has given a new role to Amad Diallo after opting to play him in a front three for their trip to Viktoria Plzen.

Amorim is clearly a huge fan of Diallo having picked him to start all but one of his first five matches in charge of the club and the winger has repaid that faith by registering four assists in that time.

Diallo has primarily been deployed as the right wing-back when selected by Amorim in his 3-4-3 formation, which has required the 22-year-old to be a bit more defensive while bombing up and down the wing.

But now Amorim has started tinkering with his set-up following back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest and has decided to play Diallo further forward against the Czech minnows.

Instead, Diogo Dalot and the fit-again Tyrell Malacia were named as the wing-backs either side of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Diallo was slotted in alongside Marcus Rashford as the two widemen supporting forward Joshua Zirkzee in the Europa League clash.

Despite United woes this campaign, the Ivorian is enjoying his best campaign in a United shirt after making 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring three and assisting six.

Explaining the tactical change to put Diallo in his forward line, Amorim explained he was hoping his pace and dribbling ability would suit him better among his frontmen as United look to get back to winning ways.

“I think it’s important for us to have a player in that [attacking] position like Amad. Always I think it is a very good position for him,” he told TNT Sports. He’s in a great moment and we’ll try to use it.

“You have to see [who will play up front], I will not give anything [away]. But if you can think about the Everton game, it could be flexible.”

Diallo joined United from Atalanta in a deal that could rise to £37million. He has featured a total of 42 times and has been sent on loan twice – to Rangers and Sunderland.
