Amazon has slashed the price of a 4K smart telly by nearly half, with shoppers claiming it’s ‘hard to beat for the price’. Ahead of the Prime Day sale, the 43″ Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED series 4K smart TV has been reduced from £549.99 to just £289.99.

This represents a saving of £260 or 47%, and is the lowest price this year, according to price tracker camelcamelcamel. There are also hefty discounts on the larger models, such as the 50″ model for £359.99 (was £649.99) and the 55″ model for £409.99 (was £749.99).

However, these deals are set to end at 11.59pm on October 14. This comes ahead of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days sale, where thousands of items will see their prices slashed across October 7-8.

The retailer has already confirmed that shoppers will need a Prime membership or a 30-day free trial to access the deals. But for those opting for the Omni QLED smart TV, this model is said to deliver ‘true-to-life’ colours, shadows and detail thanks to its 4K QLED display.

It also features Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ for deeper and more realistic colours, while adaptive brightness automatically optimises what’s on screen depending on the lighting in a room. With the TV, there’s access to countless films and series on streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video and BBC iPlayer, all of which can be accessed from the ‘easy-to-use’ home screen.

The Fire TV Ambient Experience allows users to transform their screen into a display for artwork, photos and Alexa widgets. Additionally, the device can be controlled by Alexa, enabling hands-free operation such as turning on the TV or finding a specific series.

It’s important to mention that this model is a higher-end budget device, so it may not outperform premium competitors like the new Samsung QLED Q7F 4K Vision AI Smart TV (£399). Another option is Sky’s 4K UHD TV range, which includes the Sky Glass Air and Sky Glass Gen 2.

These models come with Sky TV and streaming apps built in, starting from £6 and £14 respectively when spreading the cost. Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED series 4K smart TV has garnered hundreds of four and five-star reviews, achieving an overall rating of 3.9 stars, reports the Express.

One satisfied customer commented: “Fantastic if you mainly use streaming apps to watch TV. Picture quality is easy to tune, so very good, plus the colour is superb in HDR. Gaming is very good, sound is better than most mid-range TVs, but it has low bass. Very hard to beat picture and sound quality for the price when on sale.”

Another added: “This TV has amazing picture quality, the interface is fast and it’s simple once set up. You can search any TV show/movie and it’ll find where you can watch it and allow you to instantly play it. It’s so slick and streamlined. Impressive for how cheap it is.”

However, the Amazon Fire TV may not be everyone’s cup of tea, as one buyer noted: “Bit slow on terrestrial tuner guide information, otherwise very good operating system. Good picture and sound quality. “

Meanwhile, a glowing five-star review stated: “It’s a great TV. Good sound, good graphics, hands-free so don’t need to touch the remote, Alexa is responsive and works well. Overall, I think it’s superb.”
