Apple is urging millions of iPhone users to update their phones, after a major security breach saw them targeted by “extremely sophisticated” cyber attacks
Apple has urged millions of iPhones users to update their devices now following a major security scare after they were targeted by “extremely sophisticated” cyber attacks.
Millions of people have been warned of a potential Apple security breach as iPhones hackers might be able to gain “full admin access”, which means criminals may be able to run any software in the device owner’s name.
Apple warned: “A physical attack may disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”
The affected products include: iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 7th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later. The warning came after the USB Restricted Mode security feature failed, which blocks third-party software from accessing Apple devices after they have been locked for more than an hour.
Currently, there are no confirmed reports of hackers gaining access. On Monday, Apple had released updates for its mobile operating systems for iOS and iPadOS, which “may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”
