Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will get the chance to mark his maiden season at Anfield with silverware after guiding the Reds to the Carabao Cup final at Tottenham’s expense
Arne Slot’s dream start to his Anfield career will take him to Wembley after Mohamed Salah led a Carabao Cup demolition of sorry Spurs.
“Reaching a final should always be special, even for this club,” smiled Slot. “If you know me a little bit, my thoughts are more on Sunday’s game but we are also in this business to play finals.”
Salah set up Cody Gakpo’s opener just after the half-hour mark and scored the second from the penalty spot with his 26th goal of the season early in the second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk then completed an Anfield rout that saw Liverpool go through 4-1 on aggregate to set up a final showdown with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on March 16.
It means the Premier League leaders still have the quadruple in their sights.
And Slot warned: “The more games you play, the stronger you become. Some people think you get tired but as long as you manage it well, some players will get stronger.”
The nature of the defeat – the visitors did not have a shot on target – puts Ange Postecoglou under huge pressure and he admitted his side had a night to forget.
The Spurs boss said: “We shied away from the challenge a bit. We were way too passive. They were way too good for us tonight. We never got to grips with the game.”

And the performance was savaged by pundits, Jamie Redknapp leading the charge, blasting: “I can’t remember in my lifetime a team going down with less of a fight than Tottenham did today.
“Not having any shot on target in a semi-final second leg when trying to change the course of your history. I’ve never seen anything like it.
“There’s been some lows but that is just horrendous. I think he (Postecoglou) is completely lost in what he wants to do.”
