Arne Slot has maintained that Liverpool “have a job to do” ahead of a potential Premier League title party at Anfield. The Reds only need to avoid defeat against Tottenham and they will be crowned champions.

Liverpool have set the pace throughout the season with their consistency allowing them to open up a comfortable lead. None of their rivals have been able to mount any kind of challenge and, after Arsenal drew with Crystal Palace in midweek, it further opened the door for the Reds.

Slot can join the likes of Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti by winning the title in his first season at the helm. He’s done a stellar job of succeeding Jurgen Klopp with the fanbase preparing to celebrate league success with the players for the first time.

The Liverpool boss has attempted to keep a lid on things throughout the season, even pouring water on title celebrations after last weekend’s win at Leicester. Ahead of Tottenham’s visit the Dutchman wants the players to seize their moment.

Slot said in his programme notes: “The overriding message today is very simple – we have a job to do.” The Liverpool boss has maximised the squad he inherited from Klopp and has continuously got the team to reach their optimal level – urging them to do so again.

He said: “On and off the pitch, our aim has to be to get as close as we possibly can to our A-game. Reaching those standards will not be easy – it never is – but it needs to be the objective of everyone who is inside the stadium today. So what we have now and in the remaining weeks of the season is a wonderful opportunity that we should grasp with both hands.

“Finishing top of this league would be an incredible achievement and having put ourselves in a position to do so, we now need to finish the work that began all the way back in the summer of last year.”

The last time Liverpool won the title in was during the Covid lockdown and they had to celebrate minus their fans in an empty Anfield. Their stadium will be full this time with Slot insisting there have been times this season when the supporters have carried them over the line.

He added: “To our supporters, this message is tinged with gratitude. Every time we have needed you so far this season, you have delivered. In our most testing moments you have lifted the team to a level that has helped us to win games that might have got away from us otherwise.”
