Liverpool boss Arne Slot has now given his version of events after he was sent off at the end of a dramatic Merseyside derby in midweek by referee Michael Oliver

Arne Slot refused to be drawn on why he was sent off following the Merseyside derby in midweek but did admit he was unhappy with how much added-on time was played.

Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure both received second yellow cards after the former confronted the Everton midfielder for celebrating his team’s late equaliser in front of Liverpool’s fans before a mass brawl ensued.

And then Slot and his assistant were both shown straight red cards by Michael Oliver after exchanging words with him at the final whistle.

That meant Slot was unable to hold his usual post-match press conference. But ahead of Sunday’s home match against Wolves, the Dutchman was finally able to speak on the incident.

When he was asked about his interactions with Oliver on Friday morning, he said “there is an ongoing process” and wouldn’t go into detail about what was said at the end of Wednesday’s match, which ended 2-2 courtesy of James Tarkowski’s 98th minute leveller.

Slot did, though, go on to say: “What happened was the extra time, [the] additional five times it ended up being eight [minutes], the emotions got the better of me.

“If I could do that differently, I am hoping to do it differently next time as well.”
