Arsenal have made moves to land Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler – who is out of favour in Spain and seeking a move – whilst the loan signing of Raheem Sterling is criticised
Arsenal have been left to stew on the point they gained at Chelsea before the international break but will soon get the chance to atone for it.
The Gunners know they need to snap a four-game winless run when they host Nottingham Forest on Saturday with the gap at the top of the Premier League already a sizeable once to Liverpool. Mikel Arteta has had to deal with a fair amount of injury woes, which hasn’t been the case in recent years.
The major players are returning to Arsenal training after the international break with Martin Odegaard, who didn’t play for Norway, looking set to play a major role after starting in the draw at Stamford Bridge recently.
Here’s the latest from north London.
Arsenal eye Odegaard repeat with Real
Arsenal are hoping to land Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler – who is another player in the Odegaard mould as he struggles to break through in the Spanish capital.
Mikel Arteta’s side are now set to try and tempt the Spanish club once again. Spanish outlet Sport report the Gunners hope to land the Turkish international and have opened talks with the young star. Real signed the 19-year-old in 2023 from Fenerbahce and granted him a six-year deal, but reports suggest that Guler is unhappy at the Bernabeu
The Gunners signed their captain in 2021 after a spell on loan at the Emirates, in a deal worth £30million. Odegaard star had been signed as a footballing prodigy when Los Blancos plucked him from Strømsgodset, barely a month after he turned 16.
Odegaard made just 11 appearances for Real Madrid however and spent time on loan at Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad before the La Liga side decided to cash in.
Edu set for more work
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is set to take over another club in the wake of his move for Edu – potentially giving the sporting director more work to do. Edu quit Arsenal earlier this month in a bombshell move and it was reported that a driving force behind his decision to move was the chance to work within a multi-club set-up.
Forest boss Marinakis is reportedly in talks to add another club to his portfolio, adding even more workload to Edu’s pile once he officially completes a move. As per The Telegraph, Marinakis is attempting to buy Brazilian side Vasco da Gama.
Already the Greek businessman owns Europa Conference League winners Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave, as well as the Premier League side, who are flying high this term.
Sterling labelled a flop
Summer signing Raheem Sterling has been brandished as the Premier League “flop of the season” following his poor start to life at the Emirates. He made a deadline day loan switch from Chelsea, but has been unable to recapture his form across London.
Sterling’s only goal came in a 5-1 Carabao Cup win against League One side Bolton and he has started just two league games so far and was an unused substitute as Arsenal slumped to recent defeats at Newcastle and Inter Milan
Stan Collymore said: “Raheem Sterling has been a massive disappointment. He came in and said he was going to give the club his best work, but that hasn’t happened. He’s arguably stunk the place out so far and he’s definitely one of the flops of the season having promised to do his best work at Arsenal.”
