Arsenal are finally closing in on making the striker signing they have been desperate for all summer. The Gunners have finished as runners-up in the Premier League for three years in succession.

Last season, they saw Liverpool leap ahead of them in the title race as Manchester City faltered. Many pundits have pointed to their lack of a regular goalscorer as the reason the Gunners have fallen short.

Boss Mikel Arteta made it a priority for this summer’s window, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko their top targets. It appears they have now made their choice between that duo with a deal now close.

That news comes as former star Jack Wilshere issued his advice to Arteta for who to target this summer. And Thomas Partey is being pursued by Fenerbahce as Arsenal await a decision over his future.

Partey is a free agent and has an offer from the Gunners on the table, though his yet to signal his views on his future. Here Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Striker agreement reached

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Benjamin Sesko over personal terms in a major step towards completing a deal for the RB Leipzig star. The 22-year-old has long been one of their top targets.

And it has now been claimed by German outlet Sport Bild that the Gunners and Sesko have ‘reached an agreement’ over contract terms. While that agreement has been reached, Arsenal still need to negotiate with Leipzig.

It is said that the Premier League side have signalled they will table an offer that is ‘in line’ with Leipzig’s £60million price tag. The Bundesliga side are prepared to sell their star striker after missing out on European qualification.

Wilshere shares tip

Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has urged Mikel Arteta to push for Alexander Isak this summer. That is despite the Gunners’ interest in the Newcastle man seeming to have faded in recent weeks.

“I think they need a nine. You can add depth around the squad, but right now it’s a nine. I would go for Isak, but I think that is probably a bit unattainable,” Wilshere said.

He has experience of the league, he’s scored goals, helped a team get into the Champions League. I would go for Isak as number one.”

Mourinho eyes Partey

Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Thomas Partey as his contract counts down to expiration. Party will be a free agent from the start of July and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Gunners.

And according to Fotomac, Fenerbahce boss Mourinho is looking to take advantage of that uncertainty. It is claimed that the Turkish giants have been approached by Partey’s representatives as they search for prospective clubs.

The final decision will rest with Mourinho, who is in the market for a midfielder. Partey would be interested in a move to Istanbul and if he did move on, it would be a bitter blow for Arsenal.
