Arsenal want reinforcements in the January transfer window but could find the deals they want to make are difficult to do as Mikel Arteta makes his demands clear for the coming weeks
The January transfer window is in full flow, and still it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make a signing this month.
Mikel Arteta has made clear that the only incoming players he wants to see in the coming weeks, are those ready to make a fast impact. Though the Spaniard perhaps looked to play down hopes of that being possible.
“First of all, someone that can impact the team, bringing in bodies doesn’t help us all,” Arteta said of the kind of player he wanted, in his press conference. “It’s just about somebody who can immediately impact our performance and can bring something that we don’t have. To find that in this market is very difficult to achieve.
“We set very high standards and we really only want to have players, if they come through the academy or we have to sign those players to really elevate and impact the team, otherwise bringing bodies it doesn’t help us.”

Can the Gunners deliver that? Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding the Emirates.
Arsenal plan bid
Arsenal could make an offer for Ronald Araujo ‘in the next few days’, according to Sport.
The north London side are are unlikely to reach the €70-80million (£58.7-67.1m) Barcelona are demanding however. The central defender wants to leave the Catalan club and has already found interest from Juventus.
The Uruguay star’s agents are looking for suitors with several European teams said to be considering a move. Arsenal’s interest already has Juve tempted to increase their opening €35m (£29.4m), per reports.
The Bianconeri are considering increasing their bid to the €50m (£42m) to secure a deal for the 25-year-old.
Arsenal to keep defender
Despite persistent speculation linking Jakub Kiwior with an Arsenal exit, the defender is ‘destined to remain’ at the Emirates, according to reports in Italy, per Sport Witness. The Gunners reportedly have ‘no intention of selling’ this month, though more be more willing to do so in the summer when a bid in the range of €15-20m could prove persuasive.
The Poland international is said to have been the subject to a number of approaches, with Arsenal yet to be convinced by a loan with an option to buy deal. Last month it was claimed Kiwior asked his agent to find him a new club.
Williams blow
It appears the January transfer window will prove to be another where Arsenal do not sign Nico Williams. The Athletic Bilbao star has drawn interest from the Gunners but a deal looks set to be too financially prohibitive.
The Spain international has a release clause in the region of €60m (£50.4m), and that in addition to his salary requirements, makes a chance of a deal remote. The Athletic believes a deal is unlikely for the winger but that should not diminish the interest Arsenal hold with Mikel Arteta said to ‘love’ the player.
The Arsenal head coach would ‘really like to sign him in this January transfer window’ it is claimed. Williams is not set to agitate for a move however, meaning a deal is even more unlikely with financials involved being unlikely to waiver.
