Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window after adding three new players – with another one on his way in Noni Madueke – but Mikel Arteta is still waiting to bring in a new striker that he desperately needs

Arsenal fans are anxiously waiting for more news on transfer targets after seeing the club do a number of deals – without delivering on the striker they crave so desperately.

Mikel Arteta has snapped up three signings so far in this window – goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is on his way ahead of completing a medical over his £52million deal.

But some Arsenal fans aren’t happy with the business that’s been done so far after a petition was launched against Madueke’s signing, while there is frustration over the failure to get Viktor Gyokeres’ signature over the line.

Here, Mirror Football has rounded up the biggest Arsenal transfer news and gossip.

Gyokeres speaks out

Arsenal remain at a stalemate with Sporting Lisbon over Gyokeres and it’s the transfer saga that seems like it will go on and on until deadline day.

The Gunners will certainly be hoping to avoid that despite Sporting declaring a “cooling off period” in talks, having failed to reach a breakthrough.

Arsenal have proposed a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons, but a €5m (£4.3m) gap remains between the two clubs.

Gyokeres is said to be furious with Sporting over their stubbornness and wants the situation resolves as soon as possible – with the player reportedly going on strike ahead of his expected return to pre-season training.

He has now given an interview to French outlet L’Equipe discussing his future – as he admitted he would love to play in the Premier League after failing to cut the grade while turning out for Brighton at the start of his career.

“It’s one of the biggest leagues in Europe. I spent several years there without being able to play a single match. So, of course, it’s something I’d like to do. It would be great revenge!”

When asked if he could quit Sporting, he replied: “Maybe. That’s football, you never know. I don’t think about it; we’ll see what happens. If something happens, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.”

Maresca teases imminent Madueke announcement

Arsenal fans know that one signing is just around the corner – even if many might not be too enthusiastic about it.

Madueke is set to bolster Arsenal’s numbers on the wing following the end of Raheem Sterling’s loan spell and he will give Arteta further options alongside Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli.

He will become the club’s fourth signing of the summer and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has now spoken out about the deal happening for the first time, teasing Madueke was just “hours” away from becoming an Arsenal player.

“Noni is in contact with a new club,” the Italian said. “I guess that he’s going to leave in the next hours. I said in one of the last press conferences that at the end, if players want to leave, at the end, it’s difficult for the club and for the manager. Noni decided to leave, nobody told Noni he had to leave. If he is happy, we are happy.”

Gunners snap up son of ex-Champions League winner from Chelsea

There’s quite a bit of transfer business between Arsenal and Chelsea these days. Here is another Gunners deal for an ex-Blues star, but it’s not a direct deal between the clubs.

Arsenal have snapped up 17-year-old left-back Marcell Washington following a trial with the club last season. He last played for Chelsea and is actually the son of Ryan Bertrand, who won the Champions League with the Blues in 2012.

Washington has now signed a professional deal with the Gunners after impressing across eight matches featuring for the Under-21s in the 2024-25 campaign.

The teenager revealed how his father had been instrumental in guiding him through his career so far and said he was eager for him to become a “better version of him”.

“I think it’s been such an honour to have him take me through clips and walk me through games that I’ve played,” he said. He’s really passionate about making me a better player and probably a better version of him. We might have a bit of an argument about it but you get it out of him

“I think [Arsenal] is a really big club, obviously. The club are always striving to win trophies. I’m just looking to be an addition to that and see what I can offer the club.”
