Imagine picking up a book by your favourite author and seeing a surprise from them inside. A successful British author was doing a spot of shopping in Tesco recently and spotted her books on the shelves – and she did something super sweet that a fan could not believe.

Sunday Times and New York Times best selling author Gillian McAllister has written seven successful novels. She is known for her captivating stories, and even the likes of Victoria Beckham has been spotted reading her book on holiday.

Following the launch of her book Famous Last Words earlier this year, the author, from Tamworth, decided to conduct a sweet gesture for a fan. In a post shared on TikTok, she said: “POV: you randomly signed a book in Tesco, expecting nothing.”

She shared another clip of her secretly signing the book. She said: “Join me for a sneaky Tesco signing.” She picked up a pack of pens in the shop, grabbed one of her books and signed a sweet note inside.”

The note said: “I signed this in secret! If you find it DM me.”

One individual commented: “I love this – what a treat for someone! I’ve just devoured Famous Last Words on holiday, it was superb; could not put it down. Got myself a signed copy from Waterstones – lucky me!”.

One other said: “I just bought that book, it’s so good! I love your writing style! you are by far my favourite author.”

“How exciting would that be,” added one. “Love this,” added another.

She said she didn’t expect anything from it but was delighted when someone bought her book and wrote her a sweet message.

The note said: “I just found your signed book in Tesco! I did a little weep of joy when I saw it and was super excited. I thought it looked like my local Tesco from the video so I had a cheeky look during my food shop.”

This is not the first time that Gillian, 40, has surprised her fans. In July she waited an hour in Tesco to see if someone would pick up her book. As a fan was admiring her latest novel she surprised them and revealed she is the author.

Gillian’s book is also available in Sainsbury’s, TG Jones [formerly WH Smith], and on Amazon.

Her other book include Everything But The Truth, Anything You Do Say , No Further Questions, The Evidence Against You, How To Disappear, That Night, Wrong Place Wrong Time and Just Another Missing Person.
