Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of child neglect after a 15-month-old baby was discovered in a body of water at a UK city centre park

A baby boy was found injured in a body of water and police have arrested a 17-year-old.

Lincolnshire Police said a 15-month-old child was discovered at Boultham Park, in Lincoln city centre, on Thursday. Cops said they were called to the park at around 9.20pm and discovered the baby in a body of water. The young child was found with “minor injuries” and was rushed to hospital. Police have launched an investigation and said they have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of child neglect.

Lincolnshire Police is appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time to come forward with information.

In a statement, police said: “We are appealing for eyewitnesses and information after a young child was discovered in the water at Boutham Park in Lincoln.

“Officers were called to the area at around 9.20pm on Thursday, 21 August where the child was discovered. The child sustained minor injuries and has been taken to hospital for checks.

“A teenager – a male – has been arrested in connection with the incident. A scene guard is in place in the area and investigations are taking place to determine the sequence of events that led to the child ending up in the water.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the park at the time, heard anything suspicious or saw or heard a baby. Any detail, no matter how small, could prove crucial.
